A rider makes the climb up a hill on Highway 88 during the annual Death Ride. Cyclists will climb Monitor Pass, Ebbetts Pass, Carson Pass and cover 129 miles during the 33rd annual Death Ride on Saturday.
Touring the California Alps sounds pleasant enough, calling to mind visions of biking through tree-shrouded hills or pedaling past meadows brimming with wildflowers.
