Asire, Hogan take fourth at swim meet

Julie Asire and Ryan Hogan each had fourth-place finishes to lead the Carson Tigersharks on the final day of the Nevada State Short Course Swimming Championships on Monday at the Carson Aquatic Facility.
Hogan had an outstanding effort in the 200-yard butterfly, dropping nearly five seconds off of his time to take fourth in 2 minutes, 1.58 seconds. Asire took fourth in the 50 freestyle in 25.33.
Other highlights for the Tigersharks on Monday included Samantha Ashmore dropping considerable time in her 100 backstroke (1:04.96), the 50 free (26.24) and the 500 free (5:38.78) and Tatum Boehnke dropping time in the 200 fly (2:20.58). Also for the Tigersharks, Matt Grunert had considerable time drops in the 100 back (57.76) and the 50 free (23.22).
In addition, Beth Lewis was able to advance to the C finals in the 50 free, finishing in 27.26 seconds.
For Carson’s younger swimmers, Kelsey Bradley had another strong day in 8-and-under girls, taking eighth in the 100 individual medley, eighth in the 50 fly and sixth in the 25 free. Bradley ended up sixth in the individual standings with 91 points.
Also for Carson, Tim Grunert had a strong swim in the 13-14 boys 100 back (1:08.7) and Michaela Gillenwater had strong swims in the 11-12 girls 50 back (33.9) and 50 free (29.69).
Boulder City-Henderson ran away with the combined team title with 6,523.50 points. The Clark County Sandpipers took second (3,966) and Reno Aquatics was third (3,059). Carson was eighth with 476 points.
In the individual standings in 15-18 girls, Reno’s Jordyn Green took high point honors with 126 points while in 15-18 boys, Lakeridge’s Michael Weiss was the high point performer with 140 points.
Garrett Clayton, Hogan and Grunert were all the top high point finishers for Carson’s boys. Clayton was 25th with 36.5 points, Hogan was 26th with 35 points and Grunert was 27th with 28 points.
Asire finished 17th in the individual standings for Carson’s girls with 57 points.
