Bighorns edge Muck Dawgs
June 23, 2007
Tyson Jaquez raced home with the winning run on a bizarre play to give the Nevada Bighorns a hard earned 6-5 win over the Reno Muck Dawgs on Saturday at Ron McNutt Field.
Jaquez, who had three hits, led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a double. The Muck Dawgs then tried to intentionally walk Steve Mays, but one of the pitches got away.
Jaquez took off for third and when the Muck Dawgs tried to throw him out, the throw went into left field, allowing Jaquez to score. Jaquez was also the winning pitcher, retiring the side in order in the top of the ninth.
The Bighorns took a 2-0 lead in the first when Jaquez singled. Mays eventually followed with an RBI single and Greg Pellici, who had four hits, hit an RBI double to make it 2-0.
After the Muck Dawgs took a 3-2 lead in the second, Jaquez homered in the bottom of the second to tie the score 3-3.
After the Muck Dawgs took a 4-3 lead in the fifth, Tom O’Brien scored on a wild pitch for the Bighorns to tie the score 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth. Kevin Schlange, who had two hits, singled and eventually scored on a passed ball to give the Bighorns a 5-4 lead in the sixth.
