Carson Blue Tiny Mites Shut Out Reno Panthers
The Carson Blue Tiny Mites youth football team improved its record to 4-0 on Friday night at Mira Loma Park in Reno by beating the Reno Panthers 24-0.
The Carson defense was outstanding. The Panthers were held to negative yards in the first half and were only able to move the ball a couple of times during the second half.
The game saw the emergence of Christopher Lyons and Dawson Lamb who stepped up defensively on many plays. Cody Radtke, Colton Schafer, Gavin Bakkedahl and Carl Cavner were in the middle of numerous tackles on the inside. Also playing well defensively were Phillip and Justin Lopez, Blake Snyder, Conner Larkin, Tristan Martel, Hunter Wheeler and Jarod Butler.
Carson got its offense going early when Brandon Gagnon took a handoff and went left off tackle for a 30 yard score. On the next offensive series, Derek Schafer improvised on a broken pass play and ended up running for a touchdown from 40 yards out. The score at the half was 12-0.
Conner Larkin started the scoring in the second half on the first play from scrimmage. He took a handoff up the middle, broke numerous tackles and bounced outside and ran 50 yards up the sideline for a touchdown. He was assisted by the blocking from Zachary Roark, Nicholas Tibma, Walker Bates, Tristan Woslum and Conner Arnold.
The final score of the game was set up by Luke Myers who had a 30 yard run to take the ball to the Panthers 2 yard line. Schafer then punched it in on a quarterback sneak.
The Tiny Mites next contest is at Governor’s Field where they will host the Reno Falcons at 10 a.m. Saturday.
