Carson boys swim has impressive day

The Carson High boys swim team had an impressive day on Saturday at the Carson Aquatic Facility with two decisive wins.

Carson beat Galena 165-58 and the Senators beat McQueen 18-3-51. Carson’s girls effectively battled Galena to a tie.

The Senators were ahead 128-125, but that didn’t include the diving scores. They also held their own against Northern 4A power McQueen, losing 163-119.

For Carson’s boys against McQueen and Galena, Matt Grunert, Albert Reed, Kevin Kengott and Paul Chang won the 200-yard medley in one minute, 58.31 seconds. Galena’s Joseph Pettibone won the 200 freestyle in 1:55.51.

In the 200 individual medley, Grunert and Chang went 1-2 with Grunert winning in 2:12.17. Luke Gentner and Asthon McIntosh went 1-2 in the 50 free as Gentner won in 25.06 and McIntosh was second in 25.20.

Galena’s Alex Brown won the 100 butterfly in 58.99 while Kevin Dyer was second. Nick Schlager won the 100 free in 56.07 and Dyer and Garrett Clayton went 1-2 in the 500 free. Dyer won in 5:18.28.

In addition, Chang, Gentner, McIntosh and Chris Fernandez won the 200 free relay in 1:46.66. Grunert won the 100 back in 58.35 and Clayton, Kengott and Chang went 1-2-3 in the 100 breaststroke with Clayton winning in 1:03.23. Schlager, Grunert, Reed and Alex Peckham won the 400 free relay in 3:53.43.

In the girls meet, Danica Anderson, Katherine Pettibone, Lauren Vessie and Mary Stachofksy won the 200 medley relay in 2:06.02. Vessie also won the 200 free in 2:04.17. Boehnke also won the 500 free in 5:36.55.

For Carson, Tatum Boehnke won the 100 fly in 1:04.13 while Vessie was second in 1:05.37. Stachofsky won the 100 free in 59.73.

Carson 200 free relay of Boehnke, Ashley Smith, Beth Lewis and Jamie Showalter won in an impressive time of 1:50.93. Mackenzie Trist won the 100 backstroke for Galena in 1:11.76. Showalter, Boehnke, Lewis and Smith also had an impressive showing in the 400 free relay as then won in 4:05.46.
