Carson girls hoops fall against Colfax

Staff Reports

The Carson High girls basketball team got off to a disappointing, but encouraging start at Colfax, Calif. on Friday

Colfax beat the Senators 59-49 in a game that wasn’t decided until the late going. Colfax returns four starters from last year’s team that won its section title.

“I was disappointed that we lost obviously,” Carson coach Paul Croghan said. “There were some good things that we did. I think these kinds of games do more good down the road.”

The Senators played without Talia Joyce, who didn’t make the trip because of the flu. “We could have used her scoring obviously,” Croghan said.

Katie Kotter also had to sit out most of the second quarter with foul trouble.

Still, Carson built a 16-9 lead in the first quarter and led after the first period. The game stayed close throughout until Colfax pulled away at the end from the foul line. The Senators also shot well from the line, hitting 16-of-22 free throws.
