Carson girls lose first game of season
SPARKS – Carson High’s girls basketball team was dropped from the ranks of the unbeatens, losing 46-41 its Spanish Springs at the Spanish Springs Invitational Friday night.
The loss sends Carson into the third-place game today at noon against the loser of the McQueen-Reed game.
“We didn’t play well; neither team played well,” Carson coach Todd Ackerman said. “Offensively we didn’t execute well. We didn’t help out on defense, and that hurt us.”
Carson led 33-28 entering the fourth quarter, but back-to-back 3-pointers tied the game at 34 and sparked the Cougars to a 17-8 scoring advantage in the final period. Spanish Springs drained three 3-pointers in the last quarter.
“We just didn’t take care of the basketball and we didn’t play good team basketball,” Ackerman said.
Yvonne Hollett led Carson’s scoring with 11, while Tiana McAllister Daggs added eight.
LADY MUCKERS WIN 2
VIRGINIA CITY – The Lady Muckers topped Dayton, 48-30, and Whittell, 49-11, Friday at the Comstock Shootout.
The two wins put VC at 6-2.
“We played a lot better than we did last week,” VC coach Todd Hess said. “We’re trying to do things we can control and not worry so much about the other team.”
Against Dayton, VC built a 23-11 halftime lead and cruised to an easy win. Gigi Glogovac led the Lady Muckers with 22 points, while Alexa Ballinger added 12. Kathy Arias led Dayton with nine points.
Against Whittell, VC rolled to a 22-5 first-half lead and cruised in the second half.
Glogovac and Jess Bailey scored 15 points apiece. Glogovac knocked down four 3-pointers.
