Carson girls soccer beats Reno
The Carson High girls soccer team handled the wind and Reno High in a 2-0 win on Saturday at Reno.
Carson scored both of its goals in the first half with Kasey Cano scoring on an assist from Rebecca Kane and Danielle Benamati scoring on a free kick. Carson then focused on making sure that the wind would not be a factor in the second half.
“We just tried to keep it on the ground and not get in trouble in the second half,” Carson coach Randy Roser said.
“Actually we played really well. We played well all day. We kept the game under control.”
Reno had just two shots, one in each half. Starting goalie Alli Otto went untested as she didn’t have to make a save. Brittany DeRosa played the last 30 minutes in goal and made one save. “Defense did well,” Roser said.
Krista Wisbar, Belle Fleming, Anna Macquarie and Sammy Valerius led the defensive effort, although Valerius was sick and saw limited time. Carson wasn’t at full strength as Kristen Rush sat out with a knee injury and Brandi Vega also saw limited time as she had a hamstring injury.
But Roser said he expects his team to be at full strength when it travels to Douglas on Tuesday. At stake will be five points in the Sierra Nevada Cup presented by Les Schwab.
Roser said the goal Saturday was to “get through” the game against Reno, “but be prepared for Tuesday. The girls are all pumped up.”
