Carson golf dominates event

Appeal Staff Report

The Carson High boys golf team looks to be building momentum heading to its run to the Northern 4A Championships and a possible berth in the NIAA 4A State Championships.

Carson won its second straight Sierra League Tournament on Tuesday at Reno’s Washoe Golf Club, easily outdistancing the competition. Coming off a tournament in which it won with a score of 396, Carson won with a 404 on Tuesday.

South Tahoe was second at 436, Reno High and Damonte Ranch tied for third at 436 and Douglas was fifth at 443.

Carson had the second, third and fourth place finishers in the event as Jonathon Singer was second with a 6-over-par 78, Jordan Rogers was third with a 79 and Ryan Livermore ws fourth with an 80. Douglas High’s Thomas Wicker was the low score medalist with a 75.

Isaac Holt also had a solid round with an 81. Carson coach Rod Butler said he was pleased with the round especially since his team normally shoots in the 420s at Washoe.

“I was pleased with it,” Butler said. “They did really well. Washoe gives us trouble. The first nine holes were really tough.

“It was cold and really windy. The greens were real tight. This is nice to see so many guys shooting consistently low.”

And Carson was able to win decisively even though two of its golfers struggled somewhat as Zack Rispin shot an 86 and Sam Staub fired an 88.

The next Sierra League event will be this coming Tuesday at at Wildcreek. Carson will then host its own invitational a week from today and Thursday. Wednesday’s round will be held at Silver Oak and Thursday’s round will be held at Eagle Valley.
