Carson golf wins again
The Carson High golf team swept the top three individual medal honors on its way to winning its second straight Sierra League Tournament.
Carson won at Sierra Sage on Tuesday, finishing with a 382. The Senators were followed by South Tahoe (405), Reno High (406), Damonte Ranch (444), Douglas (457), Wooster (461) and Hug and North Valleys (530).
Kevin Goles was the low score medalist, shooting a 1-over-par 72. Right behind him in second was Isaac Holt with a 74 and Ryan Livermore in third with a 76. Zack Rispin finished sixth with a 78. Rounding out Carson’s scorers were Levi Taylor with an 82 and Zach Bergstrom with an 89.
“They did what they were supposed to do,” said Carson coach Rod Butler about his team.
Last week at Wolf Run, Goles struggled to an 81 after taking a 10 on one hole and four-putting on two others. “He didn’t make any mistakes like at Wolf Run,” Butler said.
Butler said the entire team is staying away from mistakes. “They’re not making any big numbers,” he said. “We’re keeping good scores together because of that.”
Butler said it was the first time Livermore scored in the 70s in a tournament. He was also pleased with Taylor.
“Levi Taylor did a great job,” Butler said. “I told him if he could come in at 84 that would be great.”
But while Carson continues to improve, South Tahoe and Reno improved as well. Last week, Carson’s margin of victory was 29 strokes, but it was just 23 strokes on Tuesday.
“They greatly improved and showed what they’re capable of,” Butler said. “If we slip a little bit, then it’s going to be a fight.”
The next tournament is scheduled for this Tuesday at Washoe Golf Course.
