Carson softball settles for tie vs. Fallon

Staff Reports

The Carson softball team had the winning run at third base in the bottom of the seventh inning, but couldn’t score and had to settle for a 4-4 tie against Fallon on Thursday at home.

The game was called after seven innings due to darkness. Brittany Puzey walked and Kaylee Risi singled to move Puzey to third, but Puzey was left stranded to end the game.

Carson’s attack was led by Puzey and Risi. Puzey had a triple, a game-tying home run in the sixth and two RBIs while Risi went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Carson coach John Sullivan also praised the Risi’s defense at second base. “A big day for her,” Sullivan said. “Another big day for Puzey.”

Kayla Dunn finished up on the mound for Carson, pitching 4 2/3 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out seven. “Dunn came in and did a real good job,” Sullivan said.

Starting pitcher Mandy Carvin pitched two scoreless innings before running into trouble in the third when she was touched for four runs. Carvin was the victim of bad luck when a pop fly single that fell in the infield led to Fallon’s rally.

“She started out strong,” Sullivan said. “She’s the kind of pitcher that just throws strikes and she got the ball up a little bit.”

Carson took a 1-0 lead in the first on Risi’s RBI double. In the second, Bethany Henry walked, Puzey tripled and Risi singled to make it 3-0. Dunn added a single for the Senators.
