Carson softball splits a pair of games

Staff Reports

The Carson High softball team received two more outstanding efforts from freshman pitchers Kayla Dunn and Brittany Puzey in the Ceres Tournament in California.

But the Senators made six errors behind Dunn and had to settle for a split in its last two games of the tournament. Carson lost to Davis of Modesto 4-0 and came back to beat Oakdale 6-3 to finish 2-2 in the tournament.

Dunn and Puzey both pitched one-hitters. “All in all, the pitching was tremendous,” Carson coach John Sullivan said. “That’s pretty good for freshman pitchers.”

Dunn struck out seven and Carson outhit Davis 3-1. Breezi Dyer, Bethany Henry and Dunn all had hits for the Senators, but Carson couldn’t do any damage.

“Everything we hit we right at them,” Sullivan said. “I was really disappointed with the fielding in the first game. It was just one of those games.”

Against Oakdale, Puzey struck out five and allowed one earned run as the Senators made just one error on a catchers interference call, which helped Oakdale score two unearned runs.
