Carson swimming sweeps to victories
Carson High’s swim teams swept Spanish Springs in a dual meet Saturday afternoon at the Carson Aquatic Center.
The boys grabbed a 166-106 victory and the girls swam to a 151-130 decision to keep the Senators unbeaten at 4-0.
Matt Willett, making his season debut, won the 100 free (53.54), the 100 breast (1:10.27) and swam a leg on the Senators’ 400 free relay squad (3:40.89).
Todd Stroup also won two individual events, taking the 200 individual medley (2:20.89) and the 100 back (1:05.34), and swimming a leg on the second-place 400 free relay squad (4:10.02). Jeff Stroup also swam well, winning the 200 free (1:56.60), finishing second in the 100 breast (1:10.32) and swimming a leg on the winning 400 free relay squad.
Andrew Cardinal won the 500 free (5:35.02), finished second in the 100 back (1:05.99) and swam a leg on the aforementioned 400 free relay squad. Jake Oxoby won the 100 butterfly (59.12) and swam a leg on the 400 relay squad. Mark Malikauski was second in the 200 free (2:31.19) and Robbie Liebherr was third (2:37.34).
Adrian Zeh was second in the 200 IM (2:23.43) and swam on the second-place 400 free relay squad. Alex Updegrove placed third in the 100 back (1:08.88) and Ian Murdock placed fourth in the 100 back (1:16.34) and was on the second-place 400 relay squad.
Jessica Goddard was outstanding for the Carson girls, winning the 200 IM (2:20.61) and the 100 butterfly (1:07.92). Goddard also swam a leg on the Senators’ winning 200 (1:50.62) and 400 (4:10.23) free relay squads.
Katie Wandel won the 100 free (1:00.36) and also swam a leg on both relay squads. Sarah Metcalf won the 100 back (1:14.80) and swam on the 200 free relay squad. Emily Johnson finished second in the 100 free (1:01.67) and also swam on both relay squads. Erica McAfee placed second in the 200 IM (2:45.04) and Sara McCarty finished second in the 100 back (1:19.37). Melanie Gingell finished third in the 100 free (1:07.43) and swam on the 400 free relay squad.
