Carson volleyball knocks off Grizzlies

The Carson High volleyball team kept pace in the race for third in the Sierra League by sweeping at Galena on Thursday, winning 26-24, 25-19, 25-20.
Carson and Manogue are tied for third in league at 8-4. The significance of earning the No. 3 seed is avoiding the High Desert League’s top team, Reno High, in the first round of the Northern 4A playoffs.
“We played pretty consistently,” Carson coach Justin Malley said. “We’re starting to get where I want us to be at this time of year.”
Breanna Anderson had five kills, three digs and two blocks, Kailey Taylor had six kills and one block, Kendra Krupp had one dig and two assists, Samantha Hoch had one kill and one dig, Danae Eckart had 12 digs, two aces and two assists, Cameo Lomorri had four kills and nine digs, Mavil Diaz had 14 digs and one ace, Shannon Earwood had one dig, two kills, one ace and 36 assists, Bailey Young nad two aces, one assist and one dig, Nikki Keller had four digs, six kills, two blocks and four aces, Blaike King had 13 kills, one ace, one assist and 14 digs and Elysse Virden had seven kills, three blocks, one dig and one ace for Carson.
For Galena, (13-16, 5-8), Kim Naut had seven kills nad 15 digs, Emily Aguiar had six kills, eight blocks and seven aces, Brooke Keever had five kills, Bree Crook had 22 assists and one ace, Casey Burke had 12 digs, Chelsea Matteoni had 11 digs and Whitney Robinson added six blocks.
Galena won the junior varsity match 26-24, 15-25, 15-10. Next up for Carson is a match with Yerington at 6 p.m. Monday at Morse Burley Gym.
DOUGLAS 3, MANOGUE 0
Douglas (31-1, 12-0) clinched the league title by sweeping at Manogue 25-17, 25-23, 25-23.
Taryn Williams had 11 kills, three points, two aces, one dig and three blocks Jourdan Burke had nine kills, two points, one ace, three digs and four blocks, Jessica Waggoner had four kills, eight points, two aces, one dig and 10 blocks, Shannon Dugan had three kills, six points, two aces and four blocks, Emily Garcia had two kills and 15 blocks, Megan Mitchell had one kill, 24 assists,
nine points, five aces and three digs, Mysta Townsell had 11 digs and two points, Mia Townsell had two digs and three points, Rebecca Antti and Jordan Marsh each had one dig and one point and Jackie Harper had one dig and one assist for Douglas.
Manogue beat Douglas (17-4, 9-3) 13-25, 25-22, 20-18 in the junior varsity match and Douglas (15-3, 11-1) won the freshmen match 25-20, 25-19.
TRUCKEE 3, YERINGTON 2
Yerington’s Kayla Lommori had a big night for the Lions, but it wasn’t enough as the Wolverines took a 27-25, 17-25, 25-20, 18-25, 15-5 victory.
Lommori led the Lions with 20 kills, 10 digs and six blocks.
Setter Kiara Ross chipped in 30 assists, 11 digs and one block as Yerington fell to 9-1 in league and 19-9 overall.
Dama Cox added five kills and three blocks, Rani Williams had four kills and nine digs and Trinity Thom and Courtney Clifton each had eight digs for the Lions, while Alex Roberts added three kills and two blocks.
CARSON FROSH 2, GALENA 1
Angela Augusta and Tiana McAllister-Daggs each had six kills and three aces to lead Carson to a 25-27, 25-8, 15-2 win over the Grizzlies.
Sarah Lushina had 18 assists, two kills, one block and five aces, Kristalei Wolfe added 12 assists, four kills, one block and two aces and Alyson Christl notched one kill, one dig and four assists to help the Senators improve to 12-0 on the season.
Laura Mohlenkamp contributed three kills and one dig, Kahlia Pimental had three digs and Allison Vondrak added one ace for Carson.
