Carson wrestlers take it to Wooster
The Carson High wrestling program won early and often in an impressive 63-15 win over Wooster on Wednesday in South Tahoe.
Wooster was expected to be one of the better teams in the Northern 4A this year, but was no match for the Senators. Carson won nine matches by pin.
The two quickest wins came from Jason Klug at heavyweight, who pinned his opponent in 15 seconds and Micah Whitcome at 152 pounds, who won by pin in 28 seconds. Also winning by pin were:
David Cadwallader, 215, 57 seconds; Loren Wooldridge, 171, 56 seconds; Aaron Osheroff, 145, 1:17; Kevin Riggin, 135, 1:17; Brian Halverson, 119, 3:22; and Owen Craugh, 103, 1:32. Todd Banko was also able to win by pin at 112 as he pinned his opponent just as the match ended.
Kyle Banko also won 8-2 at 125 and Travis Lamborn won by forfeit at 160. Two of Carson’s losses came with freshmen going up against two of the state’s top wrestlers.
Wooster’s Rodney Stivers pinned Kelly Manning at 130 and state champion Josh Wilson pinned Aaron Jolcover at 140. “They held their own for a while,” Carson assistant coach Dave Lowe said.
Carson’s other loss came at 189 where Jonas Schenzel lost to another ranked wrestler in the state, Josh Espinosa.
“That was one that got away from us,” Lowe said. “That was a winnable match for him. We’ll see if we can get him next time.”
Carson also wrestled without one of its top wrestlers, Robbie Bozin. Since Bozin is in the process of dropping down to 119, the Senators decided to allow other wrestlers to have mat time.
