Cobler and Lewis fall in the state event

Carson High’s Brad Cobler and Bryt Lewis held their own before falling in the quarterfinals of the NIAA 4A State Championships in doubles on Friday in Reno.

Cobler and Lewis lost to Palo Verde’s David Nichols and Brandon Parker, the Sunset Division’s No. 1 team, 4-6, 2-6. Galena’s Matt Archer and Gavin Deller were also eliminated, losing to Palo Verde’s Spencer Aguiar and Alex Zara 2-6, 7-5, 0-6.

Galena’s Chris Schwartz was also eliminated in singles, losing to Canyon Springs Stan Breland, the Sunrise Division’s No. 1 player, 1-6, 2-6. Breland will play South Tahoe’s James Roberts in the semifinals today. Roberts beat the Meadows’ Jimmy Lovett 6-2, 6-0.

Reno High’s Jeff Mullen also advanced to the semifinals with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Silverado’s Trent Alenik. The semifinals and finals will be held today.
