Community Sports: Carson City bench press championship set for Sept. 21
The Carson City Bench Press Championships will be held Sept. 21 as part of the Carson City Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day.
A new category will be added this year, the super seniors for those older than 70. The other divisions are the kids division for those 12 years old and under, the teenage (13-17 years old), the men’s and women’s divisions (18-55) and the senior division for men and women (55-70).
The event will be held at the Silver Oak golf course patio, and contestants can lift between 7-9 a.m. They will get three lifts and can pay the $10 registration fee the day of the event.

Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day golf tournament Sept. 21
The sixth annual Carson City Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day golf tournament will be held Sept. 21, 9 a.m. at Silver Oak.
It is a 4-person scramble with six divisions: men’s, women’s, mixed, and senior men’s, women’s and mixed. A senior team must have all players 55 years old or older.
The price per golfer remains at $100. There will be long drive holes and closest to the pin holes, including a hole in one hole for the chance to win a new car from Michael Hohl Motors.
There will be a pairings party and tee bag pick up at the Silver Oak clubhouse between 5-6:30 p.m., on Sept. 20. The first 100 golfers will get a shirt.

Silver Oak hosts walk/run on Sept. 21
The Carson City Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day walk/run, co-sponsored with KaiaFit and the Tahoe Mountain Milers, will be held at the Silver Oak golf course on Sept. 21 at 8 a.m.
This year the distances will be shortened to be the same as those of the Nevada Day race so it will give runners and walkers a tuneup for that event.
There will be a 2-mile walk/run instead of a 5K. Also, the 10K previously held will now be an 8K or 5 Mile walk/run. There still be a fun run for 12 years old and younger.
The Fun Run is $10. The 2 mile walk/run will be $20 and the 8K or 5 mile walk/run will be $30. All participants will receive a T-shirt. There will also be plaques to the winners. There will be medals for those who win their age group.
To enter participants can register on online at Active.com or pick up an application at Blue Zone Sports in south Carson or South Tahoe. There will be late registration starting at 7 a.m. Richaun Pressley, KaiaFit, will be in charge of early packet pickup Sept. 20 at the Silver Oak clubhouse, 5-6:30 p.m.

Fuller and Williams take honors at Silver Oak
Jim Fuller carded a one-under par 70 to take low gross honors at the Sunday Men’s Club monthly masters tournament Sept. 1 at Silver Oak Golf Course, while Brad Williams captured the season-long FredEx Cup points title.
The low net (after handicap is applied) top finishers in the monthly masters first flight were Fuller with 64, Joe Glazner and Alex Talmant with 66, and Ben Gelbaum with 68
In the second flight (players with higher handicaps), Daryl Schultz led the way with a low net 64, William Tincup was second with 66, Dennis Baughman was third with 67, and Dennis Klenczar fourth with 68.
In the third flight, Jeff Sorenson was tops with a low net 61, followed by Jeff Cloutier with 67, William Pattison with 68. Jordan Payette and Williams tied for fourth with 69.
The FredEx Cup, along with a new golf bag, is awarded to the player with the most points accumulated after each event during the season. The top finishers behind Williams were Jim Shabi, Ryan Balik, Wes Camp and Eric Schaub.
The Sunday Men’s Club events will continue every Sunday through Oct. 27 at Silver Oak Golf Course and feature weekly games with three flights based on handicap and optional gross and net skins games.
Golfers may stop by the golf shop to pick up an application or visit http://www.silveroakgolf.com to print out and mail an entry. Members of the men’s club receive reduced green fees, range balls every Sunday, Golf Handicap and Information Network (GHIN) service for the year, lunches and awards banquet, prizes, trophies, and access to a web portal to view events and scores each week.
