Community spotlight: Cardinals top Cowboys, are still unbeaten
The Cardinals remained unbeaten in the Talents NFL Flag Football League with a 73-45 win over the Cowboys.
The Cardinals are 9-0, four games ahead of the Steelers. The Rams are 4-5 and the Cowboys are 0-9.
Trevor Marlin accounted for 18 scores in three games last week, 15 passing and three receiving/rushing. Alex Myhren added 11 scores and Victor Contreras tallied six times.
Jacob Hansen of the Steelers had 11 TD passes and also scored five times. Romeo Menard had five scores while Christian Smith accounted for seven TDs.
The Rams, 1-2 last week, were led by Erick Vasquez’s nine scores and Joey Altermerano’s eight TD passes. Gabriel Cuevas added three scores.
The Cowboys, who went 0-3 last week, got 10 TD passes from Sean Finn and six scores from Andres Rivas. Anthony Loyola also got into the end zone four times.
Golf tournaments set
at Carson Valley
Carson Valley Golf Club has scheduled two tournaments, one in October and one in November.
The Halloween Tournament is scheduled for Oct. 29 and the Turkey Shoot event is set for Nov. 12

• Dennis Patterson shot a net 66 to win Flight A at the recent Carson Valley Men’s Club tournament over the weekend. Dan Essary was second with a 76 and Marc Menezes was third with the same score.
Ron Fukuyama won Flight B with a 67, two shots better than Charles Poe. Joe Morrison won Flight C with a 68, one shot better than Brent Holderman. John Carey took Flight D with a 63, four strokes better than John Gudicatti.
RENO — Cabela’s will host a series of free, educational seminars and demonstrations on wild game processing, cooking and preservation at its Reno store during the company’s Field to Fork event, Oct. 22 and 23.
The event will offer a wide range of hands-on activities focusing on successfully harvesting wild game for the dinner table. Topics will include vacuum sealing and meat grinder demos and meat dehydrating. Leading the seminars and demonstrations will be Cabela’s knowledgeable staff, members of Cabela’s Pro Staff and Cabela’s vending partners.
At noon on Oct. 22 in our conference room, local butcher Mike Dodd from G&M Meat Processing will present demonstrations on wild game processing techniques and the knives and accessories needed to do it efficiently. At noon on Oct. 23, seminars will be offered on food dehydration in the camping department. And, at 2 p.m. each day, Cabela’s staff will host demonstrations on meat grinding equipment and techniques in the camping department.
