Dayton boys hoops 2-0 in league
Even though the Dayton High basketball team struggled from the floor over the weekend, the Dust Devils are 2-0 in the Northern 3A division.
Dayton came back for a 51-44 overtime win at Truckee on Saturday, overcoming a 31 percent shooting effort. The Dust Devils beat North Tahoe 41-32 on Friday despite shooting 26 percent from the floor.
Nick McQueen hit a three-pointer with 15 seconds left to force a 41-41 tie and overtime against Truckee. Jake Deen had 24 points and 13 rebounds and McQueen scored 12 points for Dayton.
“Jake stepped up and played well,” Dayton coach Rob Streeter said.
J.C. Harris hit a three to give Dayton a 44-41 lead in overtime. The Dust Devils went on to put the game away from the foul line, hitting 6-of-8 free throws in overtime. Streeter said Brian Lahmann also played well for Dayton.
Dayton trailed throughout and was behind by as many as 10 points.
“We just kept battling, hung around, hung around,” Streeter said. “We just didn’t shoot real well this weekend.
“We’re very happy to be 2-0 in league, not shooting the ball well. We haven’t played our A game, yet and we’re still 2-0.”
In the girls game, Dayton (4-9, 1-1) built a 10-point lead and held on for a 44-38 win against Truckee.
