Douglas boys basketball beats North

Appeal Staff Report

The Douglas boys basketball team was able to overcome a tough trip over the mountains and a poor first half for a comeback 69-59 win over North Bakersfield, Calif., on Wednesday in the Clovis Christmas Tournament.

“We barely made it over the hill,” Douglas coach Rob Streeter said. “We were a little road weary when we first got here.

“It completely looked that way (in the first half). We woke up in the third quarter.”

The Tigers shot just 26 percent from the floor and were just 6-of-14 from the foul line as they trailed 33-26 at halftime. But Douglas took control when it outscored North 24-11 in the third quarter.

Michael Gransbery scored 18 of his 21 points in the second half. He also went 10-of-12 from the foul line, including 9-of-10 in the fourth quarter. Keith Olson added 18 points.

Douglas advanced to today’s quarterfinals where it will play Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks, Calif.
