Douglas boys open with impressive victory
The Douglas High boys basketball team got off to an impressive start on the season with a 93-54 win over Soquel of Santa Cruz, Calif., in the South Tahoe Tournament on Thursday.
Even though Douglas hit just four three-pointers and trailed 16-15, the Tigers were still able to put on an impressive offensive display against Soquel, which came into the game at 2-0 and averaging 73 points a contest. Douglas also hit 21-of-25 foul shots (84 percent). “It was a great way to get a good start,” Douglas coach Rob Streeter said.
Keith Olson and Joe Nady each scored 14 points, Michael Gransbery had 13 points, Brandon Bernard had 11 points, James McLaughlin had nine points, David Laird had eight points and Kevin Emm added six points.
Douglas will face El Camino at 6:15 p.m. today. Streeter said El Camino figures to be a tough test as it is a quick, athletic team that likes to apply full-court pressure. “It will be a great opportunity for us,” Streeter said.
