A year ago, Rosie Contri was a leader for the Douglas High girls basketball team in its drive to the Northern 4A playoffs.

Contri’s role was considerably different this year, yet she she had an impact for Willamette University in Salem, Ore.

The 1999 Douglas grad broke in to start 12 of 24 games at point guard this season for the Bearcats, who finished their season with a 12-12 overall record and 5-12 in Northwest Conference play.

She averaged 24 minutes playing time, 3.3 points and 2.6 assists per game – not to mention her trademark enthusiasm.

“She has a lot of energy and enthusiasm,” Willamette coach Paul Petrie said. “She loves the game. Rosie’s an intense player on the floor. She’s very competitive and wants to win.”
