Dyer, Niehoff strong again
August 12, 2005
Abby Niehoff just ran out of a little gas at the end after trying to pull off a difficult double, but still finished with an impressive effort for the Carson Tigersharks at the Western Zone Championships on Friday in Kearnes, Utah.
Kevin Dyer also had an impressive effort for the Tigersharks. The two are swimming for the Pacific Region all-star team in the meet, which features 900 swimmers from all over the Western U.S. The Pacific Region covers swimmers from Northern California and much of Nevada.
Niehoff swam four races in Friday. She took seventh in the preliminaries of the 13-14 girls 200-meter butterfly in two minutes, 34.25 seconds. She also took first in the preliminaries of the 400 freestyle in 4:38.11.
Niehoff went on to lower her time considerably in the finals of the 200 fly, finishing fourth in 2:28.00. But Niehoff ran out of a little steam in the finals of the 400 free, settling for fourth in 4:39.88.
The 15-year-old Dyer took third in the preliminaries of the 400 free in 4:20.93 and equaled his time in the finals, taking third in 4:20.93. The meet concludes today.
