Final 2003 deadlines

for turkey hunters

Jan. 31 is the final deadline for receiving applications for the 2003 Nevada spring wild turkey hunts to be held on public lands.

Those forms must be mailed to the Wildlife Administrative Services Office, P.O. Box 1345, Fallon, 89407-1345, by no later than 5 p.m. on that date. They must be received through an authorized mail service such as the U.S. Mail, FedEx, U.P.S.

You can also apply on-line by going to the Internet at http://www.ndow.org.

— There will be a total of 100 public lands, spring, wild turkey tags available this year.

— In addition to the 100 public lands tags, there will be an unlimited number of “private lands” tags available for both resident and non-resident hunters.

The deadline for applications for the Private Lands Spring Turkey Hunt is 5 p.m. on Mar. 14.

Hunters interested in obtaining a Private Lands Spring Turkey hunting tag must first secure a permission authorization/application form from a landowner. The form then must be submitted to the Nevada Division of Wildlife with the tag application and fees.

Trespass or guiding fees may be charged by those landowners.

— The fee for a resident turkey tag is $20.

The fee for a non-resident is $50.

There is also a non-refundable processing fee of $10 and a Predator Management Fee of $3.

If you apply on the Internet, there is an additional $2 fee.

In addition, a hunter must have a current hunting license for Mar. 1, 2002 to Feb. 28, 2003 to apply for a turkey tag, and must also have a hunting license for Mar. 1, 2003 to Feb. 29, 2004 when hunting.

Residents and non-residents are only allowed one turkey tag per year of any type.
