LOGAN, Utah (AP) – A.J. Ellis ran for 165 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead Fresno State past Utah State 41-24 Saturday night.

Quarterback Ryan Colburn also ran for 44 yards and threw for 149 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs (2-0, 1-0 Western Athletic), who scored 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter.

Utah State (1-2, 0-1) led in total offensive yards at the end of three closely played quarters (274-269) and had the score tied at 24, but the Aggies gained only 37 yards in the final quarter.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) – Lamon Muldrow’s 6-yard touchdown run with 1:10 remaining gave San Jose State a victory.

Jordan LaSecla threw for 193 yards on 24 of 35 passing as the Spartans (1-2) survived a mistake-filled, penalty-plagued contest.

Brandon Rutley rushed for 47 yards and a touchdown for the Spartans, who bounced back from losses at No. 1 Alabama and No. 11 Wisconsin, and improved to 11-0 all-time against FCS schools.

Brad Sorensen, a transfer from BYU, threw for 230 yards on 23-of-39 passing for Southern Utah (1-2) before leaving the game with an apparent left ankle injury late in the third quarter.

NAVY 37, LA, TECH 23

RUSTON, La. (AP) – Ricky Dobbs had a career day as a passer and Navy’s option attack provided three second-half touchdowns to help the Midshipmen rally for a win.

Dobbs threw for 219 yards, but Navy (2-1) went to its ground game after trailing 23-16 at halftime. Dobbs led Navy to 239 yards rushing in the second half, almost all of that on three long touchdown marches.

Dobbs’ one-yard touchdown capped a 73-yard march on the opening drive of the second half. After he temporarily left the game, backup quarterback Kriss Proctor capped a 54-yard march with a seven-yard run that gave Navy a 30-23 lead late in the third quarter.

The Midshipmen then marched 81 yards, all on the ground, and Vince Murray scored on a 17-yard run to help seal the win.

The Bulldogs (1-2) scored on five straight possessions to end the first half.

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) – Rodney Stewart rushed for two touchdowns and Tyler Hansen hooked up with Toney Clemons on a 73-yard touchdown toss as Colorado overcame a sluggish start.

The Buffaloes (2-1) trailed 10-0 at halftime and were booed off the field by the frustrated fans at Folsom Field. A loss in their home opener to Hawaii (1-2) on the heels of their 52-7 debacle at Cal a week earlier and surely the calls would have intensified for the firing of embattled fifth-year Colorado coach Dan Hawkins.

Stewart scored on runs of 7 and 2 yards sandwiched around a safety as the Buffs surged ahead 17-10 in the third quarter.
