Hohl places fourth for Carson
Tim Hohl fired a solid four-over-par 75 to finish fourth to lead the Carson High golf team in a Northern 4A tournament on Tuesday at D’Andrea.
Carson also placed fourth as the top five teams continue to battle closely together. It looks like a five-team race for the two qualifying spots to the NIAA 4A State Championships.
Galena won once again with a 392, but was followed closely by second place Fallon, which had a 398. Fallon was followed by Reed (398), Carson (409) and Reno (414).
Sparks’ Greg Wenzel was the individual medalist, firing a 1-under 70. He was followed by Galena’s Steve Kfchinski (71) and Fallon’s Brody Hammon (71) and Hohl.
“We played fairly well,” Carson coach Rod Butler said. ” We had a couple bad holes. This is our best performance. We could have shot a little bit lower but it wasn’t that bad.”
Hohl overcame a start in which he bogeyed the first three holes. “Tim played great,” Butler said.
Also for Carson, Tyson Roser shot an 81, Jimmy Potter fired an 82, Scott Jenkins had an 84, Kyle Winter shot an 87, and Jeremy Nielsen shot an 89.
The Senators will host its Carson Invitational today and Thursday at Eagle Valley Golf. The teams will play on the East Course today and the West Course on Thursday. Shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. today and 8 a.m. Thursday.
Twenty teams, including nine from California, and virtually all of the Northern 4A clubs will compete.
“The players are figuring there’s going to be a few people under par for the two days,” Butler said.
