Kids Kup kicks off
One of the biggest tournaments of the year kicks off tomorrow at the Fallon Golf Course.
The Fallon Youth Club’s fifth annual Kid’s Kup will start at 8 a.m. with check-in opening at 7 a.m. for the 4-person teams. The scramble teams will play for first, second and third-place prizes as well as first and second-place cash prizes to be drawn later. A raffle will also be available.
Breakfast burritos will be provided for participants, as well as a lunch later in the day.
As of Wednesday, the golf course was sold out of the 18 team slots reserved for the tournament. Shannon Goodrick, executive director for Fallon Youth Club, however, said they may be able to accommodate walk-in teams who wish to join in.
“We anticipate we’ll have space for anyone who comes and wants to play,” she said.
Neil Kelly, tournament director for Fallon Youth Club, said this year was shaping up to have one of their best turnouts. As of Wednesday, he said they had raised about $9,000 before the raffle.
Some of their contributors include Lumegent and Premier Magnesia.
The tournament serves as a fundraiser for Fallon Youth Club. Goodrick and Kelly said all the money goes to their operating expenses and supplements the grants and private donations they receive. The club hosts after-school and summer activities for Churchill County children as well as children visiting the area — Goodrick noted there were grandchildren of Fallon residents who spent time with them during the summer. She added the club has about 115 children each day this summer.
“It’s been a really busy summer,” she said.
