Lamborn takes third at WOW
Carson High sophomore Travis Lamborn took third at the prestigious World of Wrestling Tournament held this past weekend at the Reno Livestock Events Center.
The tournament drew more than 2,500 wrestlers from across the country. Lamborn was able to take third out of 93 wrestlers in the 157-pound class.
Lamborn won five straight matches before losing to eventual champion Jordan Abed 6-3 in the semifinals. He cam back through the consolation bracket and beat highly regarded California wrestler Robert Hart 3-2 in the third place match.
Lamborn also placed third at this past year’s NIAA 4A State Championships for CHS. He finished the high school season with the team’s best record at 39-8, including 15 pins. He was also voted the team’s most outstanding wrestler.
Since the high school season ended, Lamborn won titles in the 160-pound cadet division in freestyle and folkstyle wrestling in the state tournament held last month at Spring Creek.
Lamborn also won a Western Regional title in a tournament held in Clovis, Calif., last month. Lamborn won the folkstyle title at 160 pounds.
