Locals honored in softball and golf

Douglas High’s Katie Pagen and Galena’s Jen Molinari were among the top players for their respective leagues in Northern 4A softball.

Pagen was named the Pitcher of the Year in the Sierra League while Molinari was the Player of the Year in the High Desert League.

Named to the first team from Carson High were Kayla Dunn at first base and Brittany Puzey at pitcher.

Six Douglas players made the first team. Others named to the first team were: Third baseman Allie Walling, shortstop Lindsey Rollins, outfielder Kaycee Wilcks, pitcher Jodi Gonzales and designated hitter Valerie Smith. Wooster’s Brianne McGowan was named the Player of the Year.

Galena had two other players on the all-league first team: utility player Teresa Miller and catcher Shelby Duncan. Galena’s Dave Ziegler was tri-Coach of the Year with Sparks’ Ken Hembree and McQueen’s Stacey Allinson.

Named to the all-Sierra League second team were Carson’s Kaylee Risi in the infield and Bethany Henry in the outfield. For Douglas, infielder Ashley Harrey, outfielders Cheryl Nicoll and Ashley Arneson and catcher Tasha McCann made the second team.

Honorable mention choices were Carson’s Talia Joyce and Lindsey Perondi, Douglas High’s Cassie Smith and Devon Bateman and Galena’s Kristen Gaus and Shawna Vandenburght.

GOLF

Galena’s Bryson Young led the all-Northern 4A boys golf team. Young had the higest rating among Northern 4A golfers this season while Douglas High’s Jonathan Merry, the Northern 4A champion, had the second highest rating.

Also making the first team was Galena’s Matt Kinsinger, who had the third highest rating. Galena’s Pat Flynn made the second team while Carson’s Steve McQuirk was named to the third team.
