Mitey Mite Blues win season opener
September 13, 2007
The Carson Senators Mitey Mite Blue team defeated the South Lake Tahoe Vikings last Friday night in their home opener 46-19.
The Senator offense was led by running backs Mathias Williams, David Moniz-Lewis and Gage Gunzburg. The Senators scored often behind the offensive line play of Nick Tibma, Bodee Brennan, Sam Wilson, Noah Tomasco and Alec Fletcher. Quarterback Derek Schafer completed two passes including a touchdown to Jordan Warren. Brandon Gagnon also had a long scoring run.
After a shaky start the defense stepped up to slow the Vikings down and consistently get the ball back to the Senator offense. The defense was led by Jesse Knorzer, Nick Andreas, Luke Myers, Spencer Berger, Jarod Butler, Corree Smith, Hunter Wheeler, Anthony Miguel, Tristen Martel, Brandon Basa and Kyle Gagnon.
“The kids really came to play,” head coach Bret Andreas said. “We have been pounding on each other for so long it was nice to finally play another team. It is great to see the progress the kids have made.”
The Senators play again at home on Saturday against the Reno Ravens.
