Motorcycle racing returns to Fuji Park in Carson City

Nevada Appeal staff report

Motorcycle racing returns to Fuji Park next weekend.

Organizer Robert Hansen said this will be the fourth year for the Deuces Wild Pro/Am Flat Track Race. He said it is so popular, it has sold out all three years.

As a result, they’re expanding the program to two days and Hansen says he expects 1,200 attendees each night.

He added that the event draws a significant number of room nights for Carson City hotels and motels as many of the attendees come from out of the area. He said a lot of people make it into a vacation and stay a night or two longer.

The gates will open at 6 p.m. on both Friday, Aug. 23 and Saturday, Aug. 24. Opening ceremonies are set for 7 p.m. with racing at 7:30 p.m.

Hansen said there is also practice for the racers on Thursday evening.

Admission each night is $20 for adults and $10 for children under age 12 but he said Friday will be a family night so every adult who buys a ticket can bring a child in for free.

In between races on Friday, he said children riding striders — bikes for kids with no pedals — will race on half the track.

Hansen said this year, the race has attracted a couple of national sponsors so they’ve been able to bump up the total prize money to $27,000. That includes funding for those who run their bikes on Shinko tires.

“If you’re a professional racer, he would behoove you to go get their tires,” he said. “The cash pay out for the main event is substantial.”

The motorcycles run on a flat track inside the rodeo arena.

“It’s right in front of your face so you get to see all the action,” he said.

Tickets are available on line at visitcarsoncity.com as well as Casino Fandango, Carson City Motor Sports and Battle Born Harley-Davidson.
