NDOW asking for Walker Lake heads

Don Quilici

The Nevada Division of Wildlife has stocked many thousands of Pilot Peak strain Lahontan cutthroat trout in Walker Lake.

The division is requesting that if you fish at Walker Lake and if you catch a cutthroat with its adipose fin clipped, cut off the trout’s head and submit it to NDOW for research purposes.

Those trout which have their adipose fin clipped have a tiny micro-computer chip embedded in their noses which is needed for that research study.

The trout heads can be turned in at the Gun and Tackle Store in Hawthorne, (business hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday.

For information, call Bob Tompkins at the Gun and Tackle Store at (775) 945-3266.
