Odds and ends from Wildhorse Reservoir

Don Quilici

Dennis Dunn of the Wild Horse Resort at Wildhorse Reservoir reported that there are large numbers of coyotes and mountain lions in that general area.

He said. “Since the beginning of the rifle mule deer hunting season, there have been a total of 14 mountain lions sighted within 20 miles of the resort.”

Wildhorse Reservoir is located 64 miles north of Elko.

Dunn noted that the lowest temperature of the season occurred about 10 days ago when it dipped to -7 degrees.

He says, “Currently, we are having Reno-type temperatures with the lows in the 20’s. There is no ice on the reservoir. The fishing has been excellent for mostly rainbows and an occasional German brown trout. Last Sunday, a 4.5 pound German brown was caught with a black-colored Mepps lure.

Dunn also said. “We are planning a big New Year’s Eve party. The cost will be $70 per person and it includes dinner, overnight accommodations and brunch on New Years Day.”
