DOUGLAS AT SOUTH TAHOE,
1 P.M. SATURDAY
Douglas (6-2, 4-1) will be heavily favored to clinch the Sierra League’s No. 2 seed into the Northern 4A playoffs when it travels to face the Vikings. With a No. 2 seed, the Tigers would receive a first round playoff game at home.
The Tigers have plenty of weapons led by running back Brock Peterson. Last week in a 43-3 win over North Valleys, Douglas rolled up 447 yards of total offense, including 221 yards on the ground from Peterson. Tim Rudnick made his first start at quarterback last week and went 13-for-18 for 145 yards and two touchdowns.
GALENA VS. MANOGUE, 7:30 P.M. TODAY
The Grizzlies (7-0, 4-0) will look to set up a possible showdown of two unbeaten teams for the High Desert League title next week against McQueen. Manogue (3-4, 1-3) will look to bolster its playoff situation and avoid a possible three-way tie with Spanish Springs and Fallon for the league’s fourth and final playoff spot.
Galena is coming off a bye and last played in a 49-8 win over Elko, scoring on all six of its first half possessions. The Grizzlies have several of the North’s top offensive players, including quarterback Jacob Anderson, receivers Jason Parkinson and Steve Blackhart and running back Pete Lazzari. Manogue features one of the North’s top running backs in Josh DuPree.
DAYTON AT SPARKS,
7 P.M. TODAY
The Dust Devils (4-3, 1-2) will look to strengthen its playoff position with an upset against Sparks (5-1, 3-0). Otherwise a playoff spot could be on the line when the Dust Devils face Fernley in their regular season finale.
Dayton is coming off a 28-6 loss against Truckee. Among Dayton’s offensive and defensive leaders are Trace Feemster, Brandon Aguilera and Anthony Onstott. With just about 20 players, depth continues to also be an issue for the Dust Devils.
