Prep Roundup: Carson High softball wins 2

The Carson High softball team got off to a strong start on Friday, winning both of its games in a tournament in Sacramento. Carson beat Casa Roble 2-0 behind the pitching of Jailene Salciedo, then beat Wood 6-4 on freshman Caydee Farnworth's game-winning hit.
Salciedo pitched a complete game shutout against Casa Roble, striking out five while allowing four hits. Carson took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Amaya Mendeguia's RBI single.
Carson had nine hits in the game. Mendeguia, Kedre Luschar, and Alexandria Salciedo all had two hits for the Senators. Kailee Luschar, Camryn Quilling and Lauren Hawkins all each had a hit for the Senators as well. Carson, led by first baseman Kassidy Cooley, also played well defensively as CHS didn't commit an error.
Against Wood, Farnworth's two-run single gave Carson a 6-4 lead in the fifth.
A walk-off single led Carson past Wood 6-4 on Friday. The game was tied at four with Carson batting in the bottom of the fifth when Caydee Farnworth singled on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs.
Wood scored three runs in the first to take a 3-0 lead but CHS came back to score once on the bottom of the first and then Kedra Luschar had the big hit of the game, belting a 3-run home run in the second to give Carson a 4-3 lead.

Farnworth also started on the mound, allowing four runs on five hits over four innings. Salciedo won her second game on the day. Salciedo and Kailee Luschar each had two hits and Kedra Luschar added a hit for CHS.
Douglas goes 1-0-1
Douglas went 1-0-1 in Sacramento on Friday, beating Lincoln 6-2 and tying Christian Brothers 3-3.
Against Lincoln, Douglas got things going in the first inning when she hit an RBI double. Kettja Bennett earned the victory on the rubber for Douglas. She allowed two runs on six hits over six innings, striking out two and walking one.
Jasmine McNinch went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Douglas. The Tigers also didn't commit an error.
In the Tigers' other game, Christian Brothers tied the game on a double in the fifth inning. Douglas got things started in the first inning when Alyssa Smokey doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
Douglas tallied seven hits in the game. Taylynn Kizer and Smokey each had two hits for the Tigers.
Bouza named to all-region
Despite suffering a season-ending injury midway through league play, Carson High point guard Lily Bouza was still honored as an All-Sierra League first team choice and all-Northern 4A selection for the Carson High girls basketball team.
Bella Kordonowy was an all-Sierra League second team choice for the Senators. Abby Pradere was an honorable mention choice for CHS.
For Carson's boys, Parsa Hadjighasemi was named to the all-Sierra League second team.
