Carson opponent for opener will be CV Charter
Clayton Valley Charter will be Carson High’s opponent in the Honor Bowl at Del Oro High School on Aug. 30 at 8 p.m.
Clayton Valley had originally been penalized by the North Coast Section for having illegal practice. The original sanction by the NCS wouldn’t have given the Ugly Eagles enough practices to compete in the opening game. Los Alamitos had been mentioned as a possible replacement team.
The NCS has instead suspended head coach Tim Murphy for the first two games of the season, and the Eagles will have the required amout of practices to start the season. However, according to a story in the Contra Costa Times, the Ugly Eagles won’t practice Aug. 11-13, Sept. 8, Sept. 15 and Sept. 22.
Accordng to the Contra Costa Times article, Murphy and the school made the proposal for the adjusted punishment, and the principals from the other schools agreed on the punishment.
“It wasn’t the players that messed up,” Murphy told the Contra Costa Times. “I’ll pay the price. It was 100 percent my fault.”
