Coman leads Douglas to rout of NV
MINDEN — Dawson Coman rushed for four touchdowns, three of which came in the first half to put the Douglas High football team on track to a 48-0 victory against North Valleys Friday night.
Douglas (2-2) rushed for 218 yards in the first half and the defensive unit came up with two drive-stopping quarterback sacks in the second quarter as Douglas surged to a 28-0 halftime lead at Keith Roman Field.
Coman finished with a career-best 141 yards rushing on 17 carries, while Ryland DeSomber ran for an additional 121 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. The Tigers piled up 367 yards as a team for the night against North Valleys (0-3).
Coman scored on runs of 5, 21 and 6 yards in the first half and finished his night with a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. DeSomber’s 34-yard touchdown run at the outset of the third quarter extended the lead to 35-0 and put the game on a running clock.
The Douglas defense produced four sacks on the night. None of those was more important than the first by Dakota Lowden, which came on fourth down after North Valleys marched to the 35 and was in position to cut into the Tigers’ 14-0 lead. The Panthers also reached the 15 at the end of the first half, only to come away empty handed after Andrew Browning’s sack as time expired.
