Dust Devils pick up 29th win at Spring Creek

Dayton rolled to a three-game sweep of Spring Creek (25-15, 25-18, and 25-15) on Friday night in girls volleyball.

The Dust Devils, 29-1 overall and 12-0 in league, played without senior Madi Foley. Foley was resting a leg injury. Dayton did regain the services of setter Peach Coons, after recovering from an injury.

Coons had 21 assists and four kills. Ashley Vickers had 13 kills and six digs. Dlvia Diaz had nine digs. Lettie Lyncy had seven digs. And Taryn Schriner had 11 kills and eight digs.

Dayton continues the road trip at Elko today.

Yerington wins in 5

Yerington battled back from a 2-1 deficit to win in five games against Pershing County on Friday. Scores were 25-18, 24-26, 17-25, 25-17 and 15-6.

Leading the Lions was Ashley Rife with 50 assists. Kassidy Lommori had 23 kills, Brooke Mensini added 17 digs, Chloe Dane had 14 kills and 18 digs, Jazzmin Bryan had 10 kills and Angela Sciarani had 19 digs.


Carson’s tennis season ends

RENO — Carson’s boys and girls tennis seasons came to an end Friday at Caughlin Athletic Club in the NIAA regional tournament.

In girls singles, Katy Breeding was eliminated by a 6-3, 6-1 score, while Shaina Segura was beaten by Douglas’ Madelyn Landerfelt, 6-1 and 6-1. In girls doubles, Preeta Amin and Elizabeth Flansbrg were knocked out in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

On the boys side, Jake Jones was eliminated in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-2. In doubles, Kyle Kunz and Sam Burketta lost 6-2, 4-6 and 6-2. Trevor Sollberger and Jace Zampirro lost 6-2 and 6-3.


Elissa finishes second

Aaron Elissa led the Dayton boy’s cross country team at Friday’s Sparks High meet at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno. Elissa covered the 5k course in 17:22. He finished second out of 129 runners. JJ Ply was 27th in 19:05, and Nick Langstaff was 31st in 19:12. Rounding out Dayton’s top seven were Oakley Workman in 53rd (20:12); Tyler Brown in 54th (20:13); Toby Tapley in 62nd (20:26); and Thomas Liddle in 65th (20:41).

In the girls race, Hanna Elissa, battling a sore foot finished in 37th place out of 88 runners with a time of 23:50.


Carson blanks Galena

Elija Fajayan ran for 101 yards and two scores, and Vic Castro V threw for 203 yards and two scores to lead Carson to a 33-0 trouncing of Galena Thursday night.

Carson improved to 5-1, and will host the unbeaten Fallon JV squad Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Besides Fajayan’s two rushing touchdowns, Austin Lowe had a 2-yard scring run. Conner Pradere had a 26-yard TD ctch and Joe Nelson grabbed an 11-yarder.

On defense, Ikela Lewis led the way with 10 stops, while Ian Schulz added eight stops and a fumble recovery. Cameron Radtke had eight tackles and Gage Gunzberg six stops.
