Nevada Appeal Staff Report

Carson High's Miguel Ortiz was named the Sierra League's top midfielder by league coaches.

Ortiz was one of seven boys players honored.

Cristian Hernandez was a first-team forward and Adam Shoaf was a first-team defender. Ryan Galvan and Danny Limon were named second-team forwards, while Mario Escalante was a second-team midfielder and Zach Smith was a second-team defender. Keeper Gustavo Villagrana was a second-team selection. Alex Gonzalez was an honorable mention forward.

Jorge Vieyra of Wooster was named the top coach and Ramon Ceja, also of Wooster was named the top offensive player. Jorge Sierra of Galena was named the top defender.

CARSON TRIO HONORED

Three Carson High girls soccer players — Josilyn Daggs, Lindy Lehman and Kiahna Pimental — were named to the all-Sierra League first team by league coaches.

Mayra Oliveras and Valerie Sue Meyer were named second team, while Karla Reyes, Melissa Glanzmann and Katherine Leist were honorable mention selections. Reyes was named as a forward even though she spent 90 percent of her playing time in goal.

Galena's Annie DiLoreto was named the top coach, while Kassidy Freitas, Alexis VonSchottenstein and McKenna Kynett won top defender, top midfielder and top offensive player.

ANDERSON ON FIRST TEAM

Juliana Anderson was named to the all-Sierra League first team by league volleyball coaches.

Freshman libero Jaycie Roberts was a second-team selection and senior Savannah Smith was an honorable mention pick.

Manogue's Kelsie Hill was player of the year and Wooster's Ron Malcolm was named the top coach.

PAIRINGS ANNOUNCED

Pairings have been announced for the 28th annual Rotary Tip-off Basketball Tournament in McKinleyville Dec. 5-7.

Carson will play Heritage in the 8:30 p.m. in the opening round. Host McKinleyville will play Kipp King at 7 p.m. River Valley meets River City-West Sacramento in the tourney opener at 4, and Arcata takes on Cosumnes Oaks at 5:30.
