Prep roundup: Dayton spikers fall in three versus Truckee

TRUCKEE — The Dayton volleyball team ran into “a solid six players” as Dayton coach Monica Halverson put it and ended up losing in three straight games to Truckee 22-25, 17-25, 13-25 on Friday.

Dayton fell to 16-3 and 4-2 in league.

“Our game and mental toughness was knocked off from the very first serve,” Halverson said. “Truckee has a solid six players that challenged us in every way. We tried to fight back, but making mistakes, like missed serves and terrible passing causes my team to have to fight harder to get ahead.”

Brianda Diaz had eight kills and 11 digs, Rachel Hadley had six digs and Shalia Powell added 14 assists and five digs for the Dust Devils.

Yerington sweeps

LOVELOCK — Yerington (18-4, 4-0) swept Lovelock 25-10, 25-13, 25-12. Kassidy Lommori had 18 kills and five digs, Deseree Landa and Courtney Morose each had six digs, Ashley Rife had four kills and 19 assists, Rachel Dane had nine digs and Jordan Bobrick added four kills for the Lions.

Virginia City sweeps

HAWTHORNE — Virginia City (10-2, 5-1) swept Hawthorne 25-14, 25-13, 25-6. Kelsi Sequeira had two aces and six kills, Bethany Fuller had three aces and seven kills, Chelsea Nevin had two aces and two kills, Jordan Seddon had two aces and three kills, Kaitlin Holmes had two aces and seven digs, McKena Cypher had four kills, Rachel Renaud had three kills and Kim Tlapa added eight digs for the Muckers.

Virginia City’s junior varsity (4-5, 2-2) lost 22-25, 25-18, 11-15.

Douglas sweeps

RENO — Douglas rolled to an easy 25-7, 25-11, 25-11 winover Hug in a Division I crossover match Thursday night.

Isabelle Peterson had 10 kills, two digs and two blocks for Douglas, while Talyn Jackson had 20 assists, three kills and five digs. Taryn Allmet, Aubrey Caires, Ashley Campagna and Sophie Byrne all had four kills. Maddi Rozier added seven assists.

Dayton boys fall

TRUCKEE — Dayton fell to Truckee 5-1. Victor Gomez scored Dayton’s goal on an assist from Jaime Avila.

“Today’s match was very frustrating to watch,” Dayton coach Luis Melgarejo said. “This had to be one of our worst performance of the season. We did have some good passing and close (to) scoring plays in the second half.”

Carson at Stanford Invite

PALO ALTO — More than 3,400 runners, college and high school, have descended on the Stanford University campus for the annual Stanford Invitational.

The race will be run at the Stanford Golf Course, and action gets under way at 9 a.m. today.

Carson and Sierra Lutheran are sending their boys and girls varsity squads.
