Prep roundup: Douglas volleyball beats Yerington
MINDEN — Sophomore Talyn Jackson produced a quadruple double to help lead Douglas to a 3-1 victory against Yerington Wednesday.
Douglas (6-3) rallied from a first set setback to take the non-league win by scores of 21-25, 25-13, 25-17, 25-13 in a matchup between two of the North’s top programs. Douglas is the defending Northern Division I Region Tournament champion and Yerington (8-1) is the two-time defending Division III state champion.
Jackson, a 5-foot-11 setter, dished out 20 assists to go with 18 service points, 12 digs and 10 kills.
She also had six aces, including two to start off the pivotal third set and three more down the stretch in the fifth set.
The Tigers received contributions from a number of players. Aubrey Caires finished with 12 kills while Isabelle Peterson added 10 kills and three solo blocks. Alex Demaranville led the Tigers in digs with 13 and freshman Maddi Rozier had 21 assists.
Yerington was led by senior Kassidy Lommori with 20 kills and 10 digs. Ashley Rife had 18 assists while Deseree Landa added nine digs and two aces.
Rachel Dane finished with six assists and three digs.
Douglas boys fall
North Valleys scored with four minutes left in the game to come away with a 1-0 victory against Douglas. “I thought we did very well,” Douglas coach Milko Vasquez said. “We just can’t really score.”
Vasquez said Juan Aguayo and Chris McKimmey played well defensively and Koby Hinnant and Chris Gold also played well.
