Puzey has a record setting day
Jordan McPherson threw the first no-hitter in University of Nevada softball history and Douglas High’s Brittany Puzey also put herself in the record books on Saturday in a 10-0 win over San Jose State at Reno’s Christina M. Hixson Park.
The game was called after five innings due to the mercy rule as Nevada improved to 20-26 and 5-7 in the Western Athletic Conference.
McPherson walked the first batter she faced and then retired the next 15 batters. With still much of the season left, Puzey was already able to set two single-season school records on Saturday in home runs (10) and RBI (40).
Puzey’s home run in the first inning gave Nevada a 1-0 lead. Puzey hit her second homer and record-setter, a two-run blast in the fourth. The two-run shot also gave Puzey 40 RBI, breaking her own mark of 39 she set last season.
