Sanchez runs 43.17 in 300 hurdles
Carson High’s Kayla Sanchez and Andrea Keirstead and Hug’s Keriana Johnson put on a show in the hurdles on Saturday in a four-way track meet at Spanish Springs.
Carson’s girls dominated the meet with Damonte Ranch, Hug and Spanish Springs, winning with 96 points. Damonte was second with 61 points and Hug was third with 54. In the boys meet, Hug won with 95 points and was followed by Damonte Ranch (87) and Carson (48).
Sanchez won the 300-meter hurdles in 43.17 seconds, a blazing fast time for this early in the season. Keirstead was second in 46.57.
The 100 hurdles was the most entertaining race of the day with Keirstead, Sanchez and Johnson all posting outstanding early season times in a three-way battle for first. Keirstead won in 15.18, Sanchez was second in 15.19 and Johnson was third in 15.20.
Sanchez also won the 100 in 12.28 while Brandi Vega was third in 12.85. Keirstead won the 200 in 26.29 while Emily Field was second in 26.52. Also for Carson, Julisa Gonzalez won the 400 in 1:04 and Yvette Hollett won the 1,600 in 5:49 whiel Gloria Sosa was thirdin 5:56.
Carson also dominated all four relays. The Senators was the 4×100 in 51.09 while Hug was second in 52.94. Carson won the 4×200 in 1:47.29 while Hug was second in 1:52.98.
The Senators won the 4×400 in 4:14.7 while Damonte Ranch was second in 4:28.9. Carson also won the 4×800. In addition, Vega was third in the long jump and Amanda Nelson was third in the shot put for Carson.
For Carson’s boys, Chad Shroy won the 1,600 in 4:45.10 while Wade Smith was third. Mike Arnold won the pole vault at 12 feet while Chris Moore was third. Carson won the 4×800 relay in 8:36.3 as well.
Also for Carson, Floyd Hernandez was third in the 400, Caleb Carter was third in the 800, Ethan Graber was third in the 3,200 and the Senator 4×200 (1:36.89) and 4×400 (3:41.29) relays both took third.
