Sierra Lutheran runners strong at Rocklin Invitational

The Sierra Lutheran cross country teams traveled to Rocklin to run in the Bella Vista Branco XC Invitational Meet.

The Falcons ran in the Small School Division which included schools with more than 1,600 students. Jared Marchegger finished fifth in 16:28 while Teagan Hansen was ninth in 16:58 for the boys. Also for the Falcons, Andreas Gilson was 54th in 18:49, Jacob Tack was 117th in 20:48, William Webster was 150th in 22:12 and Aaron White was 151st in 22:25. Sierra Lutheran finished 11th out of 21 teams.

In the girls race there were 107 runners. Emily McNeely was 13th in 20:17 and Taylor Davison was 60th in 24:22.

The Johnson Springview Park Course is the home course Sierra Lutheran alumna, Emma Herron, who runs for William Jessup University.

The Sierra Lutheran girls golf team placed second at the State 1A/2A State Championships. The event was held at Toiyabe Golf Course on the first day and at Eagle Valley Golf Course on the second day.

At Eagle Valley, Sierra Lutheran finished 16 strokes ahead of Wells, but it wasn't enough to catch Wells, who won the state title. The Falcons finished second with a two-day average of 114.

Alyssa Holbert finished fourth overall in the individual standings.

The Falcons were also the 1A/2A West Regional champions, winning every tournament this season.

Falcons VB wins four matches

Sierra Lutheran won four matches in the last week. The Falcons beat Whittell twice, winning 25-8, 25-14, 25-15 and 25-11, 25-21, 22-25, 25-9.

"As a coach it is fascinating to watch the girls come into their own on the court. These girls are a family now and their ability to lift each other up is awesome. We are growing a unique volleyball program at SLHS that is only going to keep getting better," Sierra Lutheran coach Naomi DiMartino said.

Sierra Lutheran also beat Sage Ridge 25-13, 25-20, 25-21.

Kati Boogman had 4 attacks and 5 digs, Lizzie Loflin had 4 serves and 2 digs, Brie Wiles has 4 serves with 1 ace and 7 serve receptions and Rosalie Antonucci had 2 attacks, 5 digs, 5 serves with 2 aces for the Falcons.

"We traveled to NNJ gym in Reno; this is a great volleyball facility. The athletes continue to show a commitment to growing their skill sets," DiMartino said.

Sierra Lutheran also beat Oasis 25-21, 25-19, 17-25, 25-21

"While Oasis isn't a sanctioned game as their program is finishing its probationary period, they gave us a run for our money.

This team gets better every year and SLHS looks forward to the end of their probation as they have a lot to offer. Playing high level teams makes our girls play at a higher level, great fun for a coach to watch," DiMartino said.

CHS tennis players honored

Jennifer Artz and Shea Dunn were named to the all-Northern team as honorable mentional selections for the Carson High girls tennis team. For the boys, Eric Tomita, Bradley Wiggis and Gabriel Fanning were honorable mention choices.
