Silver Sox win ninth straight in wild victory
The Reno Silver Sox couldn’t hold a lead in the ninth inning, but in the end pulled out their ninth straight victory, a wild 13-12 win over 12 innings against the Chico Outlaws on Friday in Chico.
With the win, Reno improved to 11-2 and leads the Golden Baseball League by four games over second place Fullerton, which is 8-7. The Silver Sox held a 12-9 lead going into the bottom of the ninth inning, but Jason Martinez couldn’t hold the lead as Chico scored three runs to force extra innings.
Reno scored once in the top of the 12th and turned to Nate Sevier (2-0) to protect the lead. Sevier didn’t allow a run on two hits while striking out five over the last 3.2 innings to pick up the win.
Reno scored five runs in the fourth to build a 10-3 lead. But Chico scored three in the bottom of the fourth and three in the fifth to cut the deficit to 10-9 before the Silver Sox answered with two runs in the seventh to take a 12-9 lead.
Marcus Jensen went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI, Victor Hall had two hits and three runs, Caleb Maher had two hits and two runs and Philip Grau went 3-for-7 with an RBI and a run for Reno. Jensen also hit his fifth home run of the seeason while Maher hit his first.
The two teams will play again at 7:05 p.m. today in Chico.
