Supermodified Racing League final race will decide championships

The Supermodified Racing League’s final race is Saturday at Madera Speedway, Madera, Calif.
The S&S Motorsports team based in Carson City leads both owner and driver point divisions by 88 points over the second-place car owned by Courtney Davis of Reno.
Steve Shaw and Tom Silsby, owners of the baby blue No. 98 race car, are looking forward to the finale.
“I think we’ll do pretty good,” Shaw said. “Troy (Regier, driver) knows what he has to do and will do it to the best of his ability.”
Both S&S Motorsports and Regier won the 2004 championship for owner and driver, respectively.
The race is scheduled to be two, 50-lap races. After qualifying, the driver with fast time will draw the number for the invert of the lineup. It could be zero or it could be 10. When the first 50-lap race is complete, a 20-minute intermission will be held for crews to refuel the cars or make adjustments, if needed, before the start of the second race.
For the second race, the cars on the lead lap of the first race will be inverted for the lineup. All other cars will be placed behind them in finishing order.
“(The stop between races) creates a hardship for us,” Shaw said. “But we’ll do what we have to to get it done.
“We’re looking forward to racing and we’ll give it our best shot. We’ve had a great season and would like to end it on a positive note.”
Results of the SRL race at Madera will be in Monday’s edition of the Nevada Appeal.
