Tigersharks strong at Junior Olympics

Kevin Dyer was a triple winner and Garrett Clayton was a double winner to lead an outstanding effort by the Carson Tigersharks at the Pacific Swimming Junior Olympics held this past weekend in San Jose.

Swimmers from Northern California and Nevada competed in the event. The Tigersharks eclipsed their personal bests in most of their events.

Dyer turned in an impressive triple, winning the 400-meter freestyle in four minutes, 28.24 seconds, the 800 free in 9:13.54 and the 1,500 free in 18:10.60. Dyer also took second in the 200 free in 2:04.25.

Clayton won the 200 breaststroke in 2:36.29 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.87. Other top finishers for the Tigersharks included:

Boys 200 free – Matt Grunert, sixth, 2:11.92. Boys 400 individual medley – Ryan Hogan, third, 5:08.33. Girls 100 free – Julie Asire, second, 1:01.91. Boys 200 back – Grunert, third, 2:28.61; Dyer, sixth, 2:29.75. Girls 200 butterfly – Tatum Boehnke, sixth, 2:42.87. Boys 200 fly – Hogan, third, 2:19.41.

Girls 50 free Ð Asire, fifth, 29.09. Girls 400 free – Asire, fifth, 4:50.34. Boys 200 I.M. – Clayton, fifth, 2:25.94. Girls 1,500 free – Boehnke, second, 18:50.49. Girls 800 free Ð Asire, third, 10:00.82; Boehnke, fourth, 10:01.29.

Others who competed for the Tigersharks were Tim Grunert, Jacob Cornwell and Samantha Ashmore.
