Tiny Mites Blue finish with a win
November 4, 2006
The Carson Senators Blue TIny Mites youth football team avenged its only loss by beating the Fallon Greenwave12-0 in Fallon on Friday night.
Fallon’s defense was strong and held the Senators scoreless in the first half. But the Senators defense was equally strong and kept the Greenwave offense at bay the entire game.
Senators defensive end Conner Larkin despite facing double teams much of the time was in on 15 tackles. Tristan Martel had his best game of the year at outside linebacker. Hunter Wheeler, Blake Snyder, Colton Schafer, Justin and Phillip Lopez, Dawson Lamb, Nick Tibma and Christopher Lyons also played well defensively. Cody Radtke, who had a touchdown saving tackle, was another defensive standout.
The Senators offense was able to finally score at the beginning of the second half when quarterback Derek Schafer ran a keeper around the right side. He was sprung free with key blocks by Conner Arnold and Tristan Woslum.
Fullback Jarod Butler, who was playing with a cast on his right arm, pounded the ball up the middle all night long, thus setting up the outside for sweeps. Colton Schafer, who had his first carry at fullback, had a nice run left off tackle. Tailback Brandon Gagnon had many nice runs around the ends and up the middle as well as several key blocks. Offensive linemen Walker Bates, Gavin Bakkedahl helped pave the way. Center Nick Tibma was excellent all night in spite of the slippery ball due to the rainy conditions and the wet field. Substitue right guard Hunter Wheeler, filling in for the absent Zachary Roark, was reliable all night long. Right tackle Carl Cavner also played well. Running back Luke Myers caught a nice 10 yard pass for a first down, filled in at quarterback for a couple plays, and dished out a key block near the end of the game which allowed Schafer enough room to score from 60 yards out for the game’s final touchdown.
The Tiny Mites Blue finished their season with an 8-1 record, and would like to thank all of the parents and the community for the outstanding support all season long. The coaching staff of Ron Lopez, Todd Schafer, Dave Lamb, Alan Bates and Keith Larkin described the team as the best group of kids it has ever coached.
