Winners in the Pyramid Lake Derby
The 10th annual Operation Game Thief (OGT) fishing derby was held at Pyramid Lake last Saturday.
That derby is sponsored by Roger and Brenda Glover of Custom Boat and Marine of Reno. Each year, they donate all of the proceeds from the one-day contest to OGT, Nevada anti-poaching program.
By doing so, they have become the single largest donor to OGT, with more than $100,000 donated over the previous nine years of the contest.
There were a total of 500 contestants in this year’s derby.
The top three winners were:
— 1. A 11-pound, 5-ounce cutthroat caught while trolling a Flatfish-type lure. That angler was trolling 100 feet deep by the Pyramid.
He won a 2000 15-foot Tracer Super Guide boat with console, swivel seats, live bait well, floorboards, lights, etc. together with a 25-HP, 4-stroke Mercury motor and a Trailstar boat trailer. The entire boating package is valued at more than $8,500.
— 2. A 9-pound, 14-ounce cutthroat caught while trolling 88 feet deep with a Chartreuse/silver Flatfish lure. That big trout was an adipose-clipped fish which had been planted in the lake by the Pyramid Lake Fisheries.
That angler won $500 in cash.
— 3. A 9-pound, 7-ounce cutthroat caught while trolling just off Warrior Point.
The third-place winner won $250 in cash.
