The Sierra Rocketry Association will hold a launch event Saturday in Stagecoach, according to a news release.

“With FAA approval, rockets will accelerate to speeds exceeding 600 mph and fly to heights of up to 18,000 feet above sea level,” the release said.

The Sierra Rocketry Association is the amalgamation of the National Association of Rocketry and the Tripoli Rocketry Association Reno Chapter, the release said. Committed to promoting and advancing the hobby of rocketry, SRA welcomes enthusiasts of all levels and ages while aiming to foster a community passionate about exploration and discovery.

Saturday’s event is scheduled to run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the rocket launch estimated from 10 a.m. to noon. The location is Misfits Flat in Stagecoach.

To get to Misfits Flat from U.S. Highway 50, turn south on Break-A-Heart Road. Drive 1.09 miles south on Break-A-Heart Road, and the gate will be on the east side (left) of the road. The gate is normally locked but will be open during launches.

Close the gate behind you after you drive onto the lakebed. Follow the path on the edge of the lakebed. The meeting spot is ½-mile in on the path.
